About the NIJ International Center

The International Center relies on partnerships with international researchers, other U.S. government agencies, and foreign governments to assist with its mission which is to add value to federal, state and local criminal justice by:

  • Acquiring, assessing and transferring knowledge and practices from other countries.
  • Building knowledge through international collaborations and partnerships.
  • Constructing worldwide networks of researchers, practitioners and policymakers.

International Center staff includes federal employees, an international networking liaison from the National Criminal Justice Reference Service, international visiting fellows and graduate student interns. In coordination with NIJ program managers, they craft solicitations, follow research and technology developments, disseminate findings on the effectiveness of new programs and techniques in preventing and controlling crime, and review promising international programs and technology.
