Training: Intermediate Crime Mapping and Analysis Using ArcGIS 9.3

This class provides students with an understanding of several intermediate crime mapping techniques. Students can use their own data as they perform and master the techniques shown during this comprehensive class.
The following topics will be covered:

Using external data and mapservice sources

Understanding hotspots (definitions, theory and application)

Using choroplethy (aggregation and comparative statistics)

Using tactical analysis applications

Performing surface interpolation

Positioning in 3-D

Performing spatiotemporal analysis

Forecasting crime
Course Prerequisites: Participants should have taken the introductory course or have two years experience. In general, participants should have mastered the basic elements of crime mapping and be able to make simple maps prior to enrolling in this class. Prospective participants should be already able to add layers, identify points, change colors and sizes of points and lines, understand basic spatial and tabular queries and create layouts.
