MAPS: Data Sources for Criminal Justice Analysis
The National Archive of Criminal Justice Data
Data collected during all NIJ-funded grant projects are archived in the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD), located within the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research. Data sets are typically provided as statistical files and often include a code that allows analysts to link them to GIS data. NACJD data are free and available to the public.
Other Data Sources
Numerous other organizations provide data for crime analysis and research. They include:
- U.S. Census Bureau. Provides survey data about the nation's people and economy. Surveys occur once each decade. Also contains data from the American Community Survey.
- HUD USER. Exit Notice From the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of Policy Development and Research. Provides data on housing and economic development in the United States.
