State and Local Public Safety Spectrum

The radio spectrum is divided into bands. The following bands are assigned to state and local public safety:

  • Currently allocated for public safety:
    • 25 to 50 MHz VHF Low
    • 148 to 174 MHz VHF
    • 220 to 222 MHz VHF
    • 450 to 470 MHz UHF
    • 470 to 512 MHz UHF-T
    • 806 to 824 MHz UHF
    • 851 to 869 MHz UHF
  • Currently allocated for public safety broadband data
    • 4940 to 4990 MHz SHF
  • Future allocation for public safety (pending television/HDTV broadband clearance
    • 764 to 776 MHz UHF
    • 794 to 806 MHZ UHF

The remainder of the spectrum is allocated for non public-safety use.
