On any given day, there are between 80,000 and 90,000 active missing person cases in the United States. It is also estimated that approximately 40,000 unidentified decedents have been recovered across the United States. The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), a program of the National Institute of Justice, provides free resources to help agencies resolve these important cases.

This recorded webinar provides an overview of NamUs, as well as best practices for utilizing dental records, DNA, fingerprints, and analytical tools to resolve cases. Tips for using the NamUs search tools to locate potential leads are discussed, and case studies will be provided to illustrate the effective use of NamUs resources.

Presenters:

  • Todd Matthews, Director, NamUs Communications and Case Management
  • B.J. Spamer, Director, NamUs Training and Analysis Division
