Officer Wellness: 10-Hour Shift is Best
New research shows that 10-hour shifts offer more benefits compared to 8-hour and 12-hour shifts: officers get more sleep, report a higher quality of work life, and work less overtime (which may result in cost savings to the department). These findings complement another recent study showing that sleep disorders are more prevalent among police officers than the general public. Lack of sleep is associated with increased risk of adverse health, performance and safety.
