The NIJ Conference
For more than 15 years, the NIJ Conference brought together criminal justice stakeholders to share new research findings. The Conference emphasized the benefits that come to practitioners, policymakers, and researchers who work together to create science-based solutions to real-world crime problems.
NIJ has no plans to schedule the next NIJ Conference. Instead, we are holding more webinars, collaborating with professional associations to feature research at their events, and making greater use of other cost-saving options.
In 2013, we featured our research at the following events:
- International Association of Crime Analysts, September 9-13, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
NIJ had sessions devoted to practical applications of geospatial techniques, research about the impact of place, and other sessions on problem-solving for both new and seasoned crime analysts.
- National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies, September 15-18, Orlando, Fla.
NIJ had several sessions about practices that have been scientifically shown to be effective at reducing probation violations and saving money, including research about using GPS to reduce sex offender recidivism, a new risk assessment tool that is saving Philadelphia time and money, and an evaluation of an effort to bring video visitations into jails.
- International Association of Chiefs of Police, October 19-23, Philadelphia
NIJ had panels throughout the conference that showed how to be more effective by using science-based practices and policies.
