Graduate Research Fellowship Program

The NIJ Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF) program supports doctoral students engaged in research that advances NIJ’s mission.

About the GRF Program

The goal of the GRF program is to increase the pool of scholars engaged in research that addresses the challenges of crime and justice in the United States, particularly at the state and local levels.

The GRF program has two tracks:

  • Social and Behavioral Sciences. The Social and Behavioral Sciences program supports research predominantly in criminology, psychology, sociology and anthropology.
  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The STEM program supports research in the life sciences, chemistry, physics, geosciences, materials research, engineering, computer and information sciences and engineering, and the mathematical sciences.
